Sing with ACS:
audition information
Thank you for your interest in auditioning for Alexandria Choral Society.
We are looking for singers to join us for our 2024-25 season! The audition process involves vocalization, aural acuity drills, and sight-singing. Singers should also be prepared to perform (a cappella) a simple tune that showcases their vocal beauty and range (such as The Star-Spangled Banner or Amazing Grace). We can also schedule a time for you to observe a rehearsal prior to auditioning.
Alexandria Choral Society rehearses on Tuesday evenings from August through May, and we perform four concerts throughout the season. We also participate in community events in the City of Alexandria and surrounding areas throughout the year.
Please click the link below and fill out the short form to provide us with a little background information about yourself.

The information you provide here regarding your experience will be made available to the Artistic Director for your audition.
Membership shall not be denied on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or age.
REHEARSALS
Regular rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria, unless otherwise noted or announced. Check out this flyer to see public transportation options to get to rehearsal without a car. Singers are allowed to miss up to two in-person rehearsals per concert cycle for an emergency, travel, or sickness; all rehearsals will be broadcast via Zoom for use in these situations. If you miss a rehearsal, please speak to another singer from your section prior to the start of the next rehearsal to get any markings or notations. If you miss more than two rehearsals in-person, you will need to complete a vocal check with the Artistic Director in order to perform.

DUES
Dues for the full season are $325, which includes the cost of music.
Dues are to be paid by the first rehearsal by check, cash, or credit card. Payments can be split into two installments if needed, and half-season dues are available if a singer can only perform one half of a season. Scholarships and payment plans are available on a needs-based basis. The scholarship form is available here.

COMMUNICATION
Alexandria Choral Society's email newsletter, Tempo, is the primary means of distributing information to members.
We also use a Facebook group to share choir news and to stay connected with fellow singers.

PRO CORO ALEXANDRIA
Pro Coro Alexandria (PCA) is a chamber ensemble chosen from members of ACS. PCA performs at ACS concerts, as well as at additional performances throughout the season. Information about auditions, rehearsals, and additional performances will be communicated at rehearsals and via email.
SINGER INVOLVEMENT
Alexandria Choral Society is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation. Membership dues and concert ticket sales cover only a portion of our operating expenses. In order to operate as we do, we need to raise a considerable amount of additional money from grants, fundraising activities, and donations. Each member’s involvement is needed, expected, and greatly appreciated!

Involvement can include:
-
Promoting concert ticket sales.
-
Getting involved with our Silent Auction.
-
Participating in our various community involvement events.
-
Promoting and participating in our annual Giving Tuesday and Spring2ACTion fundraising events.
-
Participating in social media campaigns.
-
Helping with the set-up and clean-up at each concert.
-
Donating refreshments for post-concert receptions.
-
Joining the Board of Directors.
